To become a productive citizen of the future, children need to do more than learn the three Rs. They need to develop a set of core values that they can call on throughout their lives to guide their attitudes and behavior.
At Marshall Elementary School, we have implemented a program called Terrific Tiger Cub CHARACTER. Our goal is to emphasize different aspects of Character, with a (different quality being emphasized each month. Classroom teachers will explain each word of the month and emphasize that character trait in classroom activities, literature, and daily interactions.
In addition, we want to encourage and recognize those students who display outstanding CHARACTER. Each month, every classroom teacher will submit the name of one student who demonstrates the character trait of that given month. Students recognized will be those who show this quality on a day to day basis. Also, additional hard-working students will be recognized each month for Tiger Cub EFFORT Awards. These students names and pictures will be displayed on the Terrific Tiger Cub bulletin board in the school cafeteria.
Please talk with your child about CHARACTER and its importance in our daily lives. As parents and teachers, we are modeling character every day of our lives - our children watch to see what kind of person we are and if we'll do as we said we'd do. We hope you will partner with us and display the CHARACTER words in your home. Please encourage these qualities, and remember that developing character is a gradual process that builds on previous development and needs regular reinforcement.
We care about your child and hope you will join us in our efforts to strengthen individuals, families, and our community through character education. By instilling in children a strong sense of values, we are better preparing them for success as adults.
Thank you for your support!

Children develop character by what they see, by what they hear and by what they are repeatedly led to do. James Stenson
